Statement on the ABCC

Legislation to abolish the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) and replace it with the Office of Fair Work Building Industry Inspectorate has now been passed in the Senate.
Prior to the 2007 and 2010 elections, Labor made a commitment to the Australian people that it would replace the ABCC with a new body that was part of our Fair Work System.
The passage of this legislation provides a more balanced framework for co-operative and productive workplace relations in the building and construction industry.
